This month's sessions are: General Talk The PILIN project was a nationally funded activity aimed at strengthening Australia's ability to use global identifier infrastructure. It developed shared, standards-based, persistent identifier management infrastructure using open Handle software (http://www.handle.net/). The outputs of the project are available on open content and open source software licences. The persistence of digital resources is vital for all communities and the project was cross sectoral based. It is anticipated that a National Persistent Identifier Service will be available before the end of 2008. The presentation will detail the methodology used within the project as well as illustrating/demonstrating the outputs. For more information on the actual project, see https://www.pilin.net.au/ In-Depth Talk Each year, there is a programming contest as part of the International This talk will introduce the ICFP, the competition and look at the Much of the inspiration for this talk (and the slides) comes from a SLUGlets A guided walk through of an install on an old laptop and some of the options for a beginner.

Dinner is at Golden Harbour Restaurant, in Chinatown. We will be having the $24 Banquet, but we will be collecting $25 per head for ease of accounting and to cover a tip. We will be taking numbers during the break to confirm the reservation size. If you have any particular dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian), or if you would prefer to order separately, let us know beforehand. Dinner is a great way to socialise and learn in a relaxed atmosphere :) We hope to see you there! |
